Fascia and Vibration

Fascia is a bioelectric and semi-crystalline tissue matrix. In simple terms, picture a spider-web when we say matrix, and picture cellular information being transported, just like many other systems in the body.

With age, injury, pain, and emotional stress, this matrix densifies, dehydrates, and becomes known as “stuck fascia”. Breaking up densifications is absolutely possible through manual massage therapy, hot/cold exposure, osteopathy, chiropractic’s, yoga, and today’s topic: vibration.

Properties of Vibration

Any vibration generates a wave of energy, known as a frequency. A frequency is a property of vibration, which directs or dictates the speed of the oscillation occurring.

Other properties of vibration include amplitude- the intensity; velocity- the rate of change; and acceleration- displacement with respect to time.

Since all things are energy, including matter, then vibration can penetrate all objects, shapes, and systems, including those in the human body. Don’t believe me? How about some of the most famous scientists of our time?

  • "If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration." — Nikola Tesla

  • “Everything is energy everything is vibration what we call matter is only energy condensed.” — Albert Einstein

  • “Everything in the universe is a single field of energy vibrating in different ways.” — Brian Cox

How Our Biology Responds to Vibration

Think of a cell phone when it vibrates on a table, it also moves around a bit, doesn’t it?

The same subtle movement occurs between bone to bone, ligament to bone, tendon to bone, tendon to muscle, organ to organ, and cell to cell when vibration surrounds or is applied to the body. The vibration creates separation and space, breaking up tension, including those with chronic patterns set in.

When the body feels freedom from tension and patterns repeating themselves, the mind and spirit feels freedom too. As experienced practitioners and receivers of bodywork, we have seen and felt this many times. It’s like a heavy weight gets lifted and breathing becomes natural and easy again.

We’ve recently experienced another way to achieve this freedom by adding a new technique to our Four-Hand Massage + Reiki sessions, which will quite literally get you buzzing with excitement!

We now incorporate the use of a tuning fork during the session. When we see that a point or chakra has become stuck, be it physically, emotionally, or mentally, we use the tuning fork on it while keeping a set of hands on the area. The vibration of the tuning fork helps to break up these dense tissues and frees up space in the body. It sends a vibration through the fascia, straight into our hands! The restoration, balance and vitality can be felt by both the client and us!

How is this possible? The tuning fork creates sounds, which creates waves and resonance. Using a weighted tuning fork is specific for direct body contact. Through the contact, we feel the effect. Through touch, which will be our next topic of discussion this month.
