EARTHING!

ree

Earthing, also known as grounding, specifically uses the Earth to increase health and wellness. Sure, you can get grounding mats, sheets, and many other devices, or you can simply step outside, barefoot on some grass and get it for FREE! You can also garden and touch soil, walk on the beach, or swim in a lake… The whole point is to be connected to nature, literally by touching it.

When we make contact with the Earth, we connect to the planet’s natural electric charge. The Earth’s organic matter is naturally charged with negative ions, which can enhance a human’s overall well-being because humans are naturally electrically neutral. This means we’re balanced but that we will also be influenced by our environment... being charged for better or for worse. In a natural environment, we feel relaxed, the air quality is better, so we breathe better, we absorb natural vitamin D, and this generates overall better health.

On the contrary, an unnatural environment like a man-made office is full of positive ions, and in this case, positive does not mean good. If we’re constantly indoors all day, under neon lights, looking at screens, or stuck in traffic, with very little activity and lots of noise, then we feel constrained. In this scenario, stress hormones are high, and constant exposure to positive charges are associated to negative outcomes for your health like anxiety, irritability, headaches, fatigue, and even respiratory issues. In the modern world, positive ions and EMFs are being thrown at us from just about everywhere, including air conditioners, cars, computers, and our phones.

But out in nature, we are surrounded by trees, grass, soil, sand, sunlight, and fresh air! The ability to breathe clean air and touch the ground is quite literally like receiving a mood booster.

What happens when you start Earthing?

I’ve already mentioned how touching the Earth can reduce inflammation, pain, and stress; and that it also improves sleep, mood, and energy. But here’s the science behind the magic…

Clinical observations on grounding have been conducted since the 1990’s, and they include volt meters, thermal imaging, saliva tests, blood tests and more.

Volt meters determine how much voltage is being sent into a person’s body. The voltage is reduced by grounding outdoors after a person has been indoors or when a person is wearing shoes.

Thermal imaging can directly show us where there is heat and inflammation in the body, usually indicated by the presence of the color red. After earthing, localized red zones significantly decrease or disappear altogether, leaving us only with green or blue imaging, indicating inflammation drops and temperature drops in the body.

Decreased inflammation after only 30 minutes of grounding.

Saliva and blood tests can measure stress and other biomarkers in the body. And you may have guessed it by now that after earthing the results got better! Cortisol and insulin decreases, red and white blood cell counts go up, and studies have measured decreased blood viscosity which reduces the risk of blood clotting and other cardiovascular issues.

The benefits of earthing have been proven to reduce systemic inflammation, blood pressure, blood viscosity, and effects of EMFs; while simultaneously improving anxiety, depression, energy levels, sleep quality, muscle recovery, and so much more.

The Earth Provides All We Need

Connecting to nature and being in touch with the planet has a natural calming effect. But we must quite literally touch it! Walk barefoot on your lawn, in your garden, at the park or on a beach. Touch a tree, plant some flowers, pick vegetables from the soil. Swim in lakes or oceans, take a hike and graze the mountainside with your fingertips. Nature is full of inspiration with its many colors, animals, bugs, and trees. Simply looking at nature or the sky and the cosmos can induce feelings of connectedness, but then when we touch it, we become it! Feeling nature makes us feel one with nature. It brings us back to a more ancestral time when this was the norm.

Nature is and has always been there for us, to heal us, because we are one in the same. To get connected with nature means to get connected within, which brings a sense of grounding to the body and mind; deeply grounded, as grounded as the roots of old oak tree.

Whether we call it earthing, grounding, or rooting, it is no coincidence that these words, their meanings, and their effects on us are all interchangeable. One beautiful, intentional design between what the Earth provides, and how humans thrive. Together.
