The Benefits of Head Massage

Massage therapy is a great way to decrease pain, manage chronic stress and ease tension in the body and mind. Today, with the focus on head massage, we will see that head massage decreases the frequency and intensity of headaches, sleep disturbances and symptoms of distress, making it easier to function and work.

Head massages focus on the scalp, neck, upper back, shoulders and even the face. There are so many nerve endings in the scalp, that light touch or stimulation can immediately induce relaxation. This increases serotonin levels, a happy hormone that makes us feel good.

The benefits of head massage include:

  • Enhanced blood circulation

  • Spreads the natural oils of the hair

  • Conditions the scalp

  • Relaxes the mind

  • Stimulates the pituitary gland to function better

  • Decalcifies the pineal gland

  • Creates more space between the cranial sutures

  • Elongates the space between the vertebrae of the neck

  • Unfurrows the brow

  • Aids in optical blood circulation around the eyes

  • Promotes clarity and focus

Another special technique

While head and scalp massage promote relaxation, another special technique does so as well!

In my 15 years of experience as a professional massage therapist, I have seen the health benefits that take place in those who simply watch someone else get massaged. Imagine getting the some of the same benefits listed above, including drowsiness, just by watching a massage.

Therefore, my hope for this video is to promote relaxation using this technique. Some of the massage maneuvers I use include fascia therapy, scalp massage, tapping, percussions, sweeping and intention. Restoration in just a short amount of time, for them and for you- the viewer!
